General Dynamics Mission Systems, a leader in technology integration and original equipment manufacturing, specializes in mission-critical systems across ground, sea, air, space and cyber security domains. The Viceroy® Explorer Global Positioning System Receiver, part of GDMS’s product line, provides real-time position, velocity and timing data for spacecraft in low Earth orbit or geostationary equatorial orbit. This team was tasked with reducing the explorer weight while preserving its footprint and structural properties, achieving this through solidworks topology optimization and while adhering to industry standards and requirements.
