Summary
The Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) linear accelerator (LINAC) relies on copper accelerating cavities driven by high-power RF to accelerate protons for national security, science, and medical isotope production. To ensure proper operation, the cavities must remain precisely tuned to their resonant frequency to couple RF power effectively. The control mechanism uses the forward and reflected power to ensure the cavity is thermally regulated and ensure the accelerating cavities are tuned to the resonance frequency.
