High Speed Programmable Metasurfaces

Electrical Engineering

Team 5: Anthony Bui, Kevin Chavez, Scott Hirst, Nikolas Pavlovic, Nathan Young

Summary

A programmable metasurface, or PM, is an array of sub-wavelength, tunable radiating elements. A PM reflects an incident electromagnetic wave as a beam and can manipulate this beam electronically. Our team designed a high-speed programmable metasurface that can switch between beams fast enough to encode additional data, opening up a new realm of possibilities in wireless communications.
